Healing Through Rest

You deserve rest, joy, and liberation.

Too often, Black women are praised for our strength—usually at the expense of our peace. While well-intentioned, this praise comes at a cost. It conditions us to push past exhaustion, wear resilience like armor, and equate survival with success.

But you deserve more than survival.

A life centered on rest, joy, love, and liberation is more than resistance. It is your birthright.

Rest as the Foundation of Wholeness

Through both lived experience and academic study, I’ve come to understand this truth: living fully does not mean sacrificing peace.

When we live fully, rest becomes the foundation of everything we do.This is the core of Black Girl Sabbaticals—a movement, a mindset, and a metaphor affirming our divine right to holistic health.

I’ve seen this truth not just spiritually, but physically. When I began healing from the inside out, I released 20 pounds—evidence of how rest, alignment, and soft power transform body and soul.

Rest Practices That Heal

Here are some of the practices that supported my release of emotional and energetic trauma:

  • Lymphatic Massage: reduces swelling and releases toxins

  • Walking: a moving meditation for grounding

  • Trauma-Informed Yoga: reconnects mind and body gently

  • Acupuncture: restores hormonal balance

  • Therapy, Journaling, Stillness: create space for exploration and verbal release

  • Affirmations: cultivate radical self-love

Your Birthright: Rest, Joy, Liberation

This is your reminder: rest is not indulgence. It is sacred alignment. It is how we reclaim joy.It is how we embody freedom.

Here’s to choosing rest, reclaiming joy, and honoring liberation.

With radical rest + soft power,
